A modest fellow is our Vice Chairman Chas Baker, but over the years he has produced some amazing marquetry pictures and we are pleased to display some of them for you on this page.

(We have to give our thanks to one of our members, Alan Mansfield, who pestered Chas enough to bring some of his
pictures in for Alan to photograph. Alan has lent us the photos so that we can show them to you on our
web site, but Alan does warn you that he is no Dave Walker when it comes to photography)

Chas's version of a Church Porch picture also done by other members of the RMG

"Church"

Chas's marvellous little oval picture

"Walkies"

Note the beautifully selected veneers that compliment the picture perfectly

"Shinto Shrine"

Note the almost "Indian Ink" pen drawn style of this picture

"Joan of Arc"

A perfectly clean silhouette picture that Chas specialises in

"Model 1870"

One of Chas's award winning pictures. Apologies for the slightly blurred and de-focused look to this photo.

"Pursuit"

This picture also won an award at one of the Society's National Exhibitions

"Nellie Dean"

Another of Chas's perfectly cut oval silhouette pictures.

"Angelique"

A very realistic bird picture - very delicately cut - superb work

"One Swallow"

Alan writes: I always knew that Chas did some really brilliant marquetry work, but other than the reproductions I saw in the Marquetarian magazine, I had never seen any of Chas's work for real. So I pestered and cajoled Chas into bringing some of his pictures along to one of our group meetings for me to study and hopefully photograph. I have to admit that I was very highly impressed and I did my best to photograph them (the results of which you see here!). Although I am no Dave Walker when it comes to taking photographs, I think you will be able to get a little of the flavour of the artistry of Chas Baker's work in these photo's, I hope you enjoy the pictures as much as I do.

An extra special picture: Chas has allowed us to include a copy of the third marquetry picture he ever produced. This picture of a Devon village won Chas a "first" in the Canadian National Marquetry Exhibition and Competition. The picture also achieved a high placing in the Marquetry Society's own National Exhibition and Competition.
