This is the page where marquetry's humorous side shines.

You are looking at a picture of our Chairman Roy recovering from the shock of being told the price of Gooseberry Bush Burr veneer by our group treasurer.

He particularly wanted that very special veneer for inclusion in his next award winning masterpiece.

Oh well, perhaps he'll have to use some Fig leaf Maple Crown cross cut veneers instead!!

Roy is quite a cartoonist in his own right

PHOTO: Roy gasps in amazement at the thought of having to break in to his prized ten bob note!!!

CARTOON: Dell Duffer and his laser marquetry knife

This cartoon drawn by our resident cartoonist Alan Mansfield was originally published in the Marquetry Society's superb magazine "The Marquetarian".

We thank Alan for the use of his cartoon, and we also thank the editor of The Marquetarian magazine, Ernie Ives for access to the publication rights of the cartoons.

CARTOON: Ironing the air bubbles in his poorly glued veneer

This cartoon is taken from one of the later series of cartoons that Alan produced entirely by computer without resorting to his usual dip pen and ink techniques. These cartoons  were originally published in the Marquetarian magazine.

CARTOON: Did Ernie really hide those veneers?

Another taken from the cartoons Alan drew for the Marquetarian. We once again thank the Marquetarian's editor Ernie Ives for the use of the cartoons (and for appearing 'on the rack' in this one?....I think it's him, isn't it? Webmaster)

CARTOON: Holmes & Watson solve a canny problem

Yet another of Alan's cartoons drawn for the Marquetarian. This cartoon which was published in the Autumn of 2004 was drawn entirely in the computer without the intervention of pencils or paper. The results achieved are, I think, just as good as any cartoon drawn conventionally.

CARTOON: A hungry lion next to a plump and tasty bird is too much to ask we think!

Another of the Marquetarian cartoons by Alan Mansfield.

CARTOON: The judges have always favoured Tiger and Bird pictures !

Here is another cartoon from the latest series of computer drawn cartoons by Alan Mansfield that are currently being published in the Marquetarian magazine. The cartoons you see here have already been published in the Marquetarian in 2004, and, although they have been "painted" in a computer, we think they retain a hand drawn look, what do you think?

CARTOON: Sand in your tea is not very pleasant!

This cartoon of Alan's was published in the Marquetarian magazine a couple of years ago. This was one of the first series that was drawn "in the computer".

Please Note: Some visitors to this site have told me that they are finding it difficult to locate the cartoon of a humorous incident which occurred at the 2004 Marquetry Society AGM. So to make things easier for you I am including a short cut on this page,
