The
Marquetry pictures and applied pieces you will see on this page all come
from the 1970 National Marquetry Exhibition which, that year, was held at
Bristol.
Among the usual marquetry fare there were
some innovative pieces on display at this exhibition. Such experimentation
usually seems to fall foul of the judges, which is a shame, but at least
there seem to have always been some marquetarians prepared to "go out on a
limb" to further the artistic endeavours of marquetry in general. Perhaps
one day the cognoscenti of the art world will recognise these talented
people and accept marquetry into the main art arena as a new method /
material / style, etc of art for collectors and galleries to covet and
display for the good of all.
Here then, are the winning exhibits from the 1970
